National Single sign-on

Your existing Microsoft authentication method is recognized at the same level of assurance as MitID. When you access a service on behalf of your organization, your existing authentication method can be used instead of involving your private MitID — effectively leveraging single sign-on with secure and fast identification.

Log in to national services through a national broker using your existing Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) method:

• NemLog-in — national services such as virk.dk, SKAT, and tinglysning.dk
• KOMBIT Context Handler — municipal solutions
• Unilogin Broker — education services
• WAYF — research and education services

Trust and assurance (NSIS)

The national brokers are certified under NSIS — the Danish National Standard for Identities' Levels of Assurance (National Standard for Identiteters Sikringsniveauer). NSIS specifies the trust — the level of assurance — of both the person authentication and the authentication method used, such as single-factor or multi-factor.

NSIS is closely related to the European eIDAS Regulation, which defines a corresponding framework for electronic identification and trust services across the EU. The NSIS assurance levels — Low, Substantial, and High — mirror the eIDAS assurance levels, and eIDAS enables national eID schemes notified at these levels to be recognized across EU member states.

Single sign-on is supported on NSIS assurance levels Low and Substantial. The assurance level is determined by the requesting system and may vary between national brokers.
